I just wanted to quickly address something that consistently goes viral on conspiracy sites (it’s on r/ conspiracy right now actually).
There’s a quote attributed to JFK about a group trying to enslave every man, woman, child, etc.
I’m assuming you’re familiar, so I won’t bother listing the whole quote.
I did some digging… and it’s not some fucking mystery. Jfk DID say this quote, word for word.
But it’s been taken out of context and doesn’t support the conclusion that you want it to support. I’ve also personally been guilty of pushing that interpretation, and “wanted” that to be real.
But the reality is that Kennedy was talking to the press Corp about communism. Listening to the entire speech—there is NO other valid interpretation. You can easily verify this for yourself.
The press had bludgeoned Kennedy for being soft on communists, and this speech was an attempt (imo) to show the press that he serious about the issue.
It’s actually a very uncharacteristic speech for Kennedy. He goes on to argue that the media should self impose restrictions/censorship when it comes to stories where the communists might get some type of advantage or valuable intelligence. He advocates for more cooperation between the media and military in that regard.
Anyways, I just wanted to clear this up—because frankly it didn’t take that long and this shit is just getting out of hand.
I saw a Bill Maher segment where he emphatically claims that the quote is FAKE. It’s not fake. It’s very much real.
It just doesn’t mean what people are saying it means and should be looked at in its entirety with full context.
Basically, everyone is wrong about this quote lol. Because apparently no one does their own research.
Missing context? Wtf are you a "fact" checker? Context is recreated given new circumstances and the power and truth in the quote cannot be denied no matter how wrong you think everyone is about the "context"
Yeah. It's called the entire speech. IE, CONTEXT. Don't get your panty's in a bunch, you fcking donkeybrained dingdong.
Instead of just taking a snippet out of context and letting your own confirmation bias run wild, try listening to the ENTIRE speech.
Novel fucking concept for you, eh?
Did reality hurt your wee feelings?
Found the 12 year old. You're missing the entire point.
Right...
You might want to stop smoking crack. It's bad for your health.
No need for further comment. Quotes don't always need their original context. Good quotes stand on their own.
Unless the point is that you're an idiot... then yes, I'm missing it.
