Complete defeat of Russia is nuclear war.

At this point they are weighing up those odds. Reiterate the percentages.

Does a local conflict tactically escalate. Does it force surrender, away from other involvement. Does it escalate into all out war.

If it continues what is the probability? Why not use it prior, if it goes there regardless?

What are the odds.
