I loathe therapists. I just wanted you to recognize that we went from "That's stupid/impossible" to "maybe it's true, but it isn't important" in very short order. It is only a stones throw now from "I always knew that".

No, we are making claims about knowing the knowable! We know that aliens come from fiction, and that is their only origin. You don't know that because you haven't done the research yet.
It's much like how we know that bart simpson doesn't exist. It's because he's a fictional character.
I would say that believing in fiction (against reality) is childish, not retarded. Though when you grow up, and need to put away childish things - it does begin to be indistinguishable from retarded :(
