Mulder is investigating a guy and the cops are already in his house with a warrant for CP. Just before this the guy he meets in the bar says that's how they always get people. He also uses masonic code words. "travelers", Mulders father and him.
They blamed Columbine on DOOM™ but I'd suspect it was other downloaded Warez that put at least one of them in a position where he just couldn't say no.
