They have taken over, have had control of the Church and the state for a while now in order to control the masses. Now they want more direct control over the masses, which technology grants them. They want technology in everything because they control the technology, within allowances. They give us sheeple the illusion that we're free when really we're just grass fed.

Because it's so much easier programming monkeys rather than somebody who believes that a higher power created them. Yes they probably also created religion until they couldn't control it. The emperor isn't a god if he's mortal. It's therefore better to be God's messenger. Until the people of God choose a different messenger. So it's better just to keep them monkeys.

If they wanted to use it to better improve humanity, they could. We currently have the technology to solve all of humanities problems. Power, hunger, want, everything.
Yes I agree that technology is sort of a force multiplier for the evil, it lets them do far more than they normally should be able to, but that doesn't change the fact that technology is still a tool. Its not some mysterious intelligent malicious force by itself, its controlled by people who make it evil.
