Don't confuse fake coverage with fake war.

They want total distrust in information so no one knows what to believe and will just accept what authority tells them.

All I know is that I've spoken to friends in ukraine, and they are scared. They are not near the border, and the factories in their city have been bombed. Zero coverage from the west.
