One of the finer points of how this all echoes into the modern day is the explanation for why Putin very strongly denies that the Soviets were poised to invade. Then as if by magic, French resistance evaporated and the Germans were able to resupply and continue. There are a dozen or more such "miracles" sprinkled throughout the European Theatre (<--hmm) that belie the orchestration.
And history gets recorded when they mythologize one of those miracles like "Dunkirk" and turn it into "the feel-good hit of the summer". A hundred Leni Riefenstahls would have work these days.
