Governments probably had started developing certain technologies long before we think they did... and they simply decide when to realeast it... through their minions in the corporations.
You know another thing, all those writers like Alan Moore, the comics guy, were probably insiders too. They have been exposed to the plans. That why in V for Vendetta the new fascistic government uses the vaccine. But the drill is that we wont be able to save ourselves... those types of movies are intended to make us think that we can escape the situation just like the movie protagonists escaped and saved the situation. We wont.
We will "drive" autonomous cars, just like the cop in I robot did, and then they will remotely control our car and fucking crash us at the very first sign of disobedience.
We will use more and more robot surrogates like in that Bruce Willis movie Surrogates, while staying closed in a dark room. Oh we are already doing that with virtual avatars/surrogates...
it won't be a swift downfall. it will be a slow , methodical burn. ones you love, will be taken from you. because they fell for the ruse. ones you thought were educated and free thinking, will turn out to be the most controlled. ones that you choose to be MORE with, in a relationship, despite disagreements, will be struck down as you are with them. it's gonna suck.
