This is just pure assassination. The audio call of Assange talking to US law enforcement was leaked. Assange was warning US law enforcement, not threatening them. He said on the call repeatedly that other black hats were going after particular people who were named, and that the docs were all going to be released slowly with highlights of different individuals. The US law enforcement official agreed that the least terrible option was to release the whole dump unsorted to basically hide all these operatives in plain sight, and give them more time to get out.
