So I was discussing general conspiracy theories with someone and the subject of flat Earth came up. I'm not very knowledgeable on this so I didn't do a great job explaining why someone would think the Earth is flat.
Can anyone give me the main reason why flat Earthers believe what they believe? I gather it's an elite/resources thing to restrict the plebs from some amazing hidden area that is off limits. Something to do with Antarctica?
What are the top 5 reasons people can justify this claim with that haven't already been debunked? I tried to have a look myself but there is a whole lot of crazy out there on this subject.
I cant help with flat earth, but here are a couple of thing that dont add up.
Ancient structure alignments. Continental drift alone should throw things off, much less hurtling through space. Maybe our assumed alignments are wrong but there are an awful lot of coincidences.
Rainbows. Each water particle refracts the light splitting them into each color of the visible light spectrum. Cool, but how does that reassemble into a gigantic cohesive rainbow? Shouldn't it be a bizillion multicolored sprinkles? How is it visible for miles at every location?
The Sun and Moon exactly 400 times smaller and 400 times closer for an exact size match. Plus the exact orbit to overlap. (and so much more)
Clouds maybe? Billions of gallons of water capable of dropping inches of rain over square miles of land. 8.8 pounds per gallon. How is that possible? Water weighs more than air. Dont know if anyone has weighed water vapor? Shouldn't the water move from high density to low density instead of grouping up in clouds in any case?
Speaking of density, boats float because they displace more weight in water than they weigh. We have between 1-2 square meters of skin. 1550 square inches per meter. At sea level air weighs 14.7 PSI. 14*1500 (to keep it round) 21,000. I dont know about you but I weight less than that. And thats just surface pressure exerted, not cubed. Lets look at it a different way to test it. Scuba diving, The deeper you go the more pressure exerted on you. The more you should float. Your displacing more weight. When you go deeper do you have to fight to go down? No you fight to not sink.
These are my observations and mental masturbations so I could be completely missing factors.
