They gamed out this smallpox thing during the War on Terror about 8 years ago now. I remember coming into work one day, I was in the military then, and being told "surprise, you're getting the smallpox vaccine". I was like, "that's been extinct in the wild since the 1970s, what are they not telling us?"

My thought is that the gain of function research didn't produce a virus with a high enough death rate for the depopulation plans.
