There's a book called Lab 257 https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=11F67D969115D796E417738357B621AA that covers it. It came from a germ warfare lab off the coast of Connecticut called Plum Island. Project Paperclip Nazi doctors cooked it up out there and deer swimming between the mainland and the island spread it to Connecticut.
