Alternate theories aside, probably, because it's faster. It's being done in preparation for a century of biowarfare. The thought is this, as soon as a new virus is detected, they can isolate a protein from it, figure out the mRNA sequence to get your cells to produce that protein, and email the code to all the vaccine manufacturers, who begin producing vaccines. It's a lot quicker than any of the legacy methods ("growing them inside eggs.")
