I’ve noticed similar peculiar pro/anti China patterns from elites. I think it’s they want them to destabilize but not to replace Western hegemony. Could also be a: “hey you can participate in but you can’t profit from this propaganda”
They played with the devil and now he wants the whole pie. China has always been in the game for China, not for the western ruling class.
They wanted to knock America down a few notches but China is going in for the kill.
