Reread your sentence. It's opposite of what it appears you meant to say.

Deviant behavior should never be accepted, so to say "stopped saying deviant behavior was not only acceptable in our society it was welcomed"

Since they've made it acceptable, we have yet to stop it from being acceptable and welcomed.
