Because the flu cases were laundered as covid, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Most doctors are giving a best guess for a set of symptoms. Covid has flu-like symptoms, so naturally, flu cases are recorded as covid.

Add in a highly inaccurate PCR test and you have 2020
