I was in the USAF for 12 years. In my service I flew in KC-130's for TDY and missions.
I met pilots of KC-136's, KC-130's, B-52's, and C-5 Galaxies.
Most flights did not take flight paths horizontally across the planet.
No, paths were arced across the globe. WHY?
The CURVITURE of the earth.
It is a shorter distance to fly an AC across the curviture of the earth than straight from point A to B.
There are plane flight apps out there to prove it correct.
