You ASSUME I've never been to a beach, been on an airplane, or been on a mountain. All three are false. I live 20 minutes from the sea so I can go there and look anytime and it's flat. No you cannot see the curve. Sometimes you will see convex or concave refraction depending on your viewing angle and water vapor in the air (sometimes upwards curve, sometimes downward... Take a magnifying glass and look through it different angles to understand this).
