I'm convinced the 6th was meant to be a WAY more destructive day. The response was so overblown that it seems they expected more terror/carnage than what happened. It's why the whole thing feels so off.

That's the rumour and the bombs were supposed to go off. Hence the overblown reaction like you said. My guess is it was designed to completely shut down the voice of challenging electoral college vote certification.
