Catholic church has been power and money hungry since the beginning. It wouldn't have been too hard.
Considering the power and reach of the church one would expect every nation on earth to attempt to influence or even infiltrate it. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘real priests’ were outnumbered 4 to 1 by infiltrators.
