I watched until it went cartoonishly lesbian. As I recall "the machine" aggregated social media & credit card activity, CCTV sightings, phone GPS location with algorithms and an AI overwatch to predict possible behavior. Really does not seem at all farfetched now.
Plus the fact it wasn't perfect and requird the guys(and gals) to determine if the person was a potential victim or culprit or if it was something else altogether. Nolan definitely kept it within the realms of reality.
Agreed & why I was so disappointed with where it ended up. It was smart, well-written & acted. Then the SJW trolley showed up and narrative shoehorned in. Suddenly the 2 strong female characters are carpet munchers, yee haw!
