I don’t think they need much CGI for this, could be a green screen type of edit.

LOL! Nope at all.. It's called composite.. You could never remake a complete scene without inserting 3d objects on it .. (objects that appears in front of your inserted character).. it's not as simple as a green screen and it would take at least 2 months of HARD work to get it done right.
