Why was God such a cunt from the instant or creation, all the way up to ~2000 years ago when he chilled the fuck out? That seems like the furthest thing from an omnipotent force I can imagine.
Simplest way I can put it: the planned change of the covenant. God was protecting or disciplining the Israelites in the Old Testament. Then when Jesus is born and the Israelites are no longer the exclusive nation of God, and salvation is offered to anyone, there is no need to protect a single formed nation.
But it’s literally God were talking about, he could have “snapped his fingers”, made a giant flaming serpent appear over Egypt that said “Leave those jews alone”, instead choosing to send plagues and kill firstborn sons. It just doesn’t make sense as the actions of an omnipotent deity (to me).
Have you ever heard the gnostic idea? That the OT god is just a creator not the creator? I find it makes things infinitely more sensible. The OT god is a jealous god, it is imperfect and that’s why it’s creation has so much suffering present.
I appreciate your response! I’ve heard the idea of the covenant before, but I just can’t reconcile that version of events. Do you think I’m missing something?
